The Sustainable World Project reaches out to anyone trying to overcome emotional or social turmoil

May 19, 2014 07:18 pm | Updated 08:20 pm IST - Bangalore:

Distressed? Going through an emotional turmoil? Or it is ego clashes in your marriage? Teenage trouble? Need someone to talk to about your problems. Call the Sustainable World Project. This online programme provides a platform for people across the world to reach out for help from the comfort and safety of their homes. All they need is a Skype account and an internet connection.

The brain behind the project is Richard Alexander from Holland, who made India his home in 2001. “I wrote an autobiography Get a Life You Love => Get a World You Love , which talks about my life experiences. This book is like a workbook for the programme. Every person goes through a difficult time and so have I. Certain people put me through so much pain that it was impossible for me to forgive them. That’s when I decided that I could become a bitter person for life or turn around, forgive them and let go,” he shares.

“We are so obsessed with who we are on the outside that we forget who we are on the inside. The project is all about connecting with who is inside and learning to value ourselves,” he explains.

“The programme gives people an opportunity to register online and talk about their fears, anxiety and pain. I am not there to solve their problems. Just being there to listen without being judgmental is what brings them so much relief. The book talks about all my failures, so many people connect with me as they see a real person and not someone hiding behind a façade,” reveals Richard.

His work partner, Sunitha Sridhar, also praises his programme. She reached out seeking help and says that her life “was so transformed” that she is now training herself. “From being immature in my reactions to situations, I have learnt to deal with people with maturity and look more for other’s interests. And the results have been amazing. I seem to get along with anyone now,” she smiles.

Richard adds: “We think we are free human beings. When we look carefully we realise that our minds are conditioned to think and react in certain ways in certain situations; especially when it comes to our spouse, children or peers. So how can we be free with a conditioned mindset? Our work is on understanding the conditioned mind with its powerful mechanisms of judgment, denial and resistance. People have deep-rooted unconscious beliefs that they struggle with all the time, which are rooted in the subconscious mind. Once that is recognised, the healing and the release begins.”

And for those who are not comfortable with using technology, Richard also offers workshops in groups or he makes himself available on phone. “It costs Rs. 3,000 for a month and our programme is made available to them. They can use it any number of times or hours. It takes about a couple of months for us to see the results,” he adds.
