It’s green and yellow, and inviting. It’s got inviting ladders for the kids to swing from, cute little tales that double as board games. And space to sit down to a game of Pictionary, Jenga, pagade, or cube puzzles. Called Attic, this play-space, high up on the terrace of a building is as much for adults as it is for kids.

Kavade Toyhive in Sheshadripuram has been in the buzz for the last five years when it opened up as a store selling traditional Indian board games and then went on to host game events, camps and more.

“I just felt that this would be a natural progression, because people who came to us were asking for a place to come and play in. I didn’t want to start a club. Moreover, as my own kids grow too, I realise I’m looking for places to take them to, in the city, and hardly find any,” says Kavade’s founder Sreeranjini G.S.

And her thought couldn’t be better timed. The summer holidays are upon us and as parents look for various avenues to keep their children entertained, this might just be one option. “But be warned, it’s not a crèche,” laughs Sreeranjini. It’s meant for children aged six and above; it is an indoor space.

Games like Cluedo, Jenga, Monopoly, Pictionary, brainteasers will be there to play with, as well as books to read and most importantly, other kids to play with.

Sreeranjini hopes that the group coming together at the Attic will slowly grow into a community with similar sensibilities. For adults, there will be an outdoor café that will open up in the near future, adds Sreeranjini.

“In today’s age where kids are bombarded with gadgets and gimmickry for entertainment, I hope Kavade Attic will provide a stimulating and nurturing environment,” she adds. She hopes to introduce children to experiences in music, cinema and art too, in special sessions over the weekend.

On April 5 and 6, the Attic will launch with a programme open to all between 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The opening days will be marked with story sessions, movie screenings, aeromodellers in action, as well as some food stalls.

The Attic will be open all year round. It can be accessed either through a monthly membership of Rs. 900 or an hourly one-time visit for Rs. 100.

Kavade Attic is at #142, CKN Pride, 3rd Floor, 1st main road, Seshadripuram. For details call 9980022820.
