“You should observe a dog seeing a gift unwrapped. It’s a wonderful sight,” says Somdatta Sengupta. Her love for animals led Somdatta to start India’s first online gift hamper portal for dogs and cats, Tailslovegiftstoo.com. “I was in a corporate job and was itching to do something different. When it came to following my passion, I wanted to do something with pets,” says Somdatta.

It was while she was holidaying in Europe, last year, that the idea of starting a pet gift hamper portal dawned on her.

“When I was at Europe, I was staying with a family who had an English Shepherd dog, Bruno. He was gifted a dog hamper. Abroad, pet gift hampers are quite a trend. But I didn’t see anything similar in India.”

Somdatta didn’t want to start a run-of-the-mill pet store or pet retail, so she chose to start an online portal, instead. Tails Love Gifts Too was started in February this year.

“We are a pan-India portal that caters to metros across the city, including tier-one and tier-two cities.” There are three standard pricing models of Rs.999, Rs. 1499 and Rs. 1,999 and a luxury hamper for Rs. 3,999. The hampers comprise of an assortment of toys, pet treats, pet chews, grooming accessories and travel accessories. “For the treats and chews, we have outsourced from Jerhigh, Twistix, Super Bite, Gnawlers, among others. We plan to include natural, gourmet treats as well in the near future.”

A tour of the portal, you will see a variety of colourful, cutesy and attractive gift hampers for owners to celebrate their pet’s special moments.

Tails Love Gifts Too is not only for pampered pooches, it has something for community dogs too. With every purchase at Tails Love Gifts Too, the customer becomes a part of Project Road Romeo, meant exclusively for stray dogs. “In every hamper, we pack a special treat for a stray dog. There’s a sticker ‘Project Road Romeo Project’ on the treat, and the customer has to feed it to stray dogs.”

Somdatta adds that she puts in a lot of heart into putting the hamper together. “Our USP is our packaging and design. Every hamper has a signature style. We don’t mind going out of our way for making the hampers special.”

There are personalised hampers too, which are priced differently. “We had once customised a hamper for a dog that had become a new mother, in it we put toys for her puppy to play with.”

There are a lot of pet birthday hamper requests. “In fact that’s the most popular range with our customer so far.

Our birthday gift hampers has a range of four different hampers for customers to pick and choose from. We also have a holiday hamper in which there are outdoor toys for dogs such as Frisbees and tug-of-war ropes and travel-friendly products such as feeding bottles.”

They have a shipping partner that gets the hampers delivered within three days. “For Bangalore, we have a super express delivery; the hamper gets delivered the same day.” There are cat hampers too. “As of now, there are two cat hampers. We will be expanding the range too.” Somdatta has plans for introducing some more special hampers. “We want to start something for shelter dogs that is affordable. We plan to put in 20 toys in one box.”
