I run a typewriting institute and prepare youngsters for the Government Technical Examinations. I did not start this institute out of passion but for a living. I developed interest gradually and my students are now well placed in Government offices.

I come from Poolampatti a nondescript hamlet, where we have some agricultural land. Repeated monsoon failure forced my father to look for greener pastures. As our relatives are in the business of selling meat, my father set up a small meat stall in our village. I studied in Alanganallur Government School and after my college studies I could not plan my future. I also got married and was struggling to lead a decent life. My best friend Periakaruppan came to my rescue. He helped me to join in a private concern for a salary of Rs.350. I managed with that amount. Understanding my predicament, my friend who was then running a typewriting institute took me in. I worked with him for three years, learnt the art of the trade and set up my own institute.

I still remember the day when my student T. Ramasamy brought laurels to the institute by standing first in the exam conducted in 2003. From then on, I started getting good response. I start the day by 6 a.m. and close at 8.30 p.m. with two hour lunch break.

I have a son and a daughter, who is married and settled. My son is studying law. I realise that life is not like the typewritten copy where if something goes wrong one can smudge it with a whitener and rewrite. Hence I am more careful now and manage with Rs.15,000 that I earn every month.
