It all started with a drawing of a fish, back when Sachind John was three. At age nine, he was reprimanded by his art teacher for drawing a cockerel that looked a bit too real, making her assume he had traced it. Now, finally putting his talent to task, Sachind is showcasing his work in his first exhibition, Colourful Thoughts.
An unassuming man with striking eyes, he says his deep-rooted love for design and art, started young.
However, he says: “I started late in life, as far as fine art paintings are concerned. I had tinkered around with water colours and other techniques in my early years, but I dived into serious art only when I had nothing else on the job front.”
Not having had any formal training, he claims to work on perfecting his skill on his own terms. “Whenever I do something, I read up a lot about it. I’m a perfectionist. I don’t want to make a mistake on my canvas.’”
Surrounded by his paintings of stellar constellations and vibrant natural settings, Sachind says, “I love nature. In fact, underwater life and outer space are two topics I would like to work more on.” His personal favourite, titled ‘Beauty of the Deep’, is based on his love for the ocean. “This collection started with realism; sharp focus realism to be more exact. Later on, I started blending this with surrealism, as seen in a few of my paintings,” he points out.
Referring to a section with abstract photography and glass paintings, he says, “I love experimenting with new forms. The beauty of art is that it can be expressed in many ways. You can not limit creative expression.”
Each of his work has a story of its own and if you follow him as he goes around explaining how his favourites came to be, you will not fail to notice the excitement in his eyes.
“This is my first show after all. I took a leap of faith and put everything I had into this project. I’m quite excited and hope to make a name for myself with this collection.” Currently managing Kivnon Art and Designs, he hopes to hold more exhibitions in the future.
Sachind’s show is on at Sublime Galleria, UB City, till July 2.
