How many times have you witnessed someone being tempted to splash out on ‘the evil eye charm’ after seeing the advertisements on television? Or for that matter, observed a trader hanging lemon and chilli at the doorway of his store to ward-off the bad spirit? Capitalising on these superstitions, Sony entertainment television and Trishulla Productions have produced a “horror-thriller-mythical”’ TV show called Anamika. Theartists from the show believe that the plot is more of a thriller.Simran Kaur, the protagonist of ‘Anamika’ says, “I don’t think our show is a horror one, in fact, it is more of thriller because at eight in the evening one cannot really telecast that sort (horror).”
The serial’s lead actor and blue-eyed boy Jeet, played by Mudit Nayar says, “If I have to classify my show it would be thriller, horror, funny and family drama!” Further, he affirms, as a serial Anamika has all the characteristics of a daily soap. Nayar shares that there aren’t any fixed timings for the shoot and the rigorous hours do take a toll on his fitness. “Now I am concentrating towards seeking advice from a dietician and subsequently adhering to a health chart,” he adds.
A happy-go-lucky Gemini, Simran prefers to relax when not on a shoot.
Talking about the influence of her ‘witch’ character in real life, Simran says, “Initially, while working as Anamika, I was freaked-out by my character!” She further adds, “I was getting nightmares but now I am in a spiritual zone where these things don’t concern me anymore.” Well, who says only the audience gets scared!
Looking at the competition from the other shows aired at the same time slot, the protagonist says it is a very “'scary time”' frame to be in. “Anamika’s TRP is still catching-up. We are just four months old and our story has just picked up the tempo!” reminds Simran. A romantic triangle with lots of grey shades spiced up with the ‘evil eye’ conception, Anamika has managed to cross half a century of episodes. But whether the audience will continue giving it a thumbs-up remains to be seen!
