Accustomed to living his life in full glare of the media for the past three years, controversy’s child Rahul Mahajan has decided to search for the perfect bride on NDTV Imagine’s “Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayaga” in Swayamvar Season 2 that airs this winter.

The show, on the same pattern as its earlier one where dancer-cum-actor Rakhi Sawant was the cynosure of all eyes, will have 16 prospective bridges vying with one another to win over Rahul. Living together under one roof, the girls will be put through a series of tasks to unravel various facets of their personality and beliefs and ascertain their compatibility with Rahul.

When asked about his reasons for being a part of the show Rahul said, “A lot has happened with me in the past three years. My life is an open book. Whether I liked it or not, television channels intruded into my private life and relentlessly focussed on the good and bad phases of my life in order to increase their viewership. Now I am using the same medium to find my life partner with whom I will spend the rest of my life with. Marriage is a serious issue and I am not participating in the show in a frivolous manner. I am not in the show to search for a girlfriend. Today is the start of a new chapter of my life; a new beginning.”

Talking about his ideal match, Rahul said his prospective bride should be honest, intelligent, bold and beautiful. “Compatibility, friendship and people thinking on the same wavelength are important factors that make a marriage successful. Nobody is perfect, neither I nor my would-be can have all good qualities. A wife is not a piece of furniture or an automobile but a partner who after the honeymoon period is over is willing to share my happiness and sorrow,” he added.

Rahul assured the media at the press conference here on Tuesday that there was no woman in his life. “I have the blessings on my entire family. My father Pramod Mahajan wanted me to get married and have a child. I want to have a girl child. I want to start my life afresh and don’t want to discuss what the differences were with my ex-wife Shweta. She continues to be my friend.”

Stating that he will accompany his sister when she files her nomination papers, Rahul says he will campaign for her. “I will like to work for my country and serve the people by joining politics. But first I need to put my life in order and settle down.”

Announcing the launch of the new show, NDTV Imagine CEO Sameer Nair said the show was back on popular demand. “We are really pleased with the spectacular response to season one of the swayamvar with Rakhi Sawant. Today morning I came to know that Rakhi has said that she will not marry Elesh. I think their problems started after they did the show ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’. We are only the facilitators; whether the show will show marriage, what would be the way in which it would be solemnised can only be decided later. All I can say is that Rahul has got good intentions.”
