Nitha Promy

Nitha Promy

L ady Luck continues to smile on Nitha Promy. Her life hasn’t been the same ever since she took part in the first season of the reality show for families, ‘Veruthe Alla Bharya’ on Mazhavil Manorama, along with her husband, Promy. Though the couple didn’t win the contest, it did open a flood of opportunities for her. Today, the homely and charming Nitha anchors some segments in the lifestyle show, ‘Vanitha’ aired on the same channel. She has a film to her credit, is getting offers from the television and film industry, and has shot advertisements with her husband. Nitha talks to Friday Review about how she is living some of the beautiful moments of her life. Excerpts from an interview:

The big leap

(Smiles) I still can’t believe my journey. My transformation from a homemaker to a television hostess and actress has been quite unbelievable for me and my family. The best part is I have done ads and soon we will be shooting an ad with our kids. It is truly an exciting phase.

‘Veruthe All Bharya’

Both Promy and I share similar tastes and qualities. So when auditions for ‘Veruthe…’ was announced, we wanted to give it a try. It clicked, we sailed through different rounds and made it to the top five. It was a great experience. After the show, I got a role in Aneesh Upasana’s Matinee . There were a lot of offers from serials and films. Since they would have taken up a lot of my time, I turned all of them down.

In the limelight

Though I was interested in dance and music, I never got on stage for any programme while in school or college. My ambition was to do something in the field of information technology. After I finished my post graduation in IT from Hosur, I worked as a Plus Two teacher in Muvattupuzha for a year. Soon I got married, and post motherhood there was hardly any free time. In fact, my first performance was before Promy’s family. There are at least 50 members, who regularly get together for some event or the other. Promy is a singer and we perform together on such occasions. Prior to the reality show, all my programmes have been for the family. I always need to be pushed to do something. My husband is the one who has been doing the pushing for a while now (laughs).

As an anchor

I am enjoying it. What excites me most is that I get to know about people from different walks of life. I have handled different segments, such as fashion, cookery, lifestyle, health and celebrity interviews in ‘Vanitha’. People say that I am doing a good job. Some also suggest that I should be more focussed. I have tried to be as original as possible. I quite like the anchoring skills of Simi Garewal and Rekha Menon.

In future

I might act if a role really excites me. I’ve been helping my husband in his business ventures. I would like to start an enterprise of my own, preferably something involving women.
