Sachin Tendulkar is the greatest batsman in contemporary cricket and the ultimate sports icon. I am not a cricket fan, but I like to watch a match when Sachin is playing. My eyes are glued to the TV when he comes out to bat. I am sure that even children as young as two or three years old enjoy watching when he plays.

Sachin — the very mention of his name brings out a certain energy in the Indian youth. It is good to see that he will be conferred with the Bharat Ratna because Tendulkar deserves all tributes.

He is a crowd-puller. He has the ability to bind a team with his polite words and interact with everyone in a friendly manner. It’s definitely a long time since any player has performed the way he has. Yet there are many who still criticise him. But his greatness is apparent as he has never said a word against his critics and this quality proves that he is humblest person, who shuts up his critics through his performance — “action speaks louder than words”.

His simplicity, humility, sense of humour and politeness have made him a great role model. Sachin Tendulkar’s innings on the cricket field may have come to an end, but he will remain an inspiration for us.

Thank you Sachin for making almost everyone’s childhood a memorable one!

Hats off to you!
