I was sitting near my bedroom window and staring out into the rain when I got this thought. I wonder whether I should be doing only the things that others — elders, teachers and peers — tell me to do. I am at the end of my adolescent years and am becoming an adult.
At college I met this boy at the literary club meeting. He is a student reporter at a popular weekly magazine and even maintains his blog. Then there are people I see everyday who take up different activities and interests like a boy in my class who is good in drama and theatre, several people who have a creative eye and make statements via light’s play (creative photography), the girl in my neighbourhood who learns languages like French and Italian for pleasure, several others in my locality who spend their weekends trekking and going on adventurous road trips, the boy who draws portraits and paints, my best friend who is very good at mehandhi designs, rangoli and other decorative pieces of art, the boy in my class who is interested in politics and forms opinions on every issue, and even wants to take up politics for a career and the boy whose passion is dance and investing in stock market is his hobby (!!) and the girl who is gifted in music and plans to start her own band…the list is endless.
When a person stands his ground for what he believes in, isn’t it inspiring? What is beautiful is this youth and free spirit that dares to do anything and wander beyond the boundaries drawn by the wise and elderly. Youth doesn’t care about the pitfalls that might be there on a path less treaded and is capable of climbing out even if there is one.
Live to your heart’s desire and explore yourself. Get to know you.
By the way, did anyone ask me where I am heading? For a swim in the Bay of Bengal…
