This incident happened when I was studying in my first year. I have always been interested in knowing about ghosts, after life, karma and stuff like that. So once, when I had come to my uncle’s house in Kumbakonam for my vacation, I was typing an article about the characteristics of ghosts. The rains only added to the eeriness. My article was about why ghosts want to contact us and the medium they use to communicate. My parents had informed me that they would not be coming home after the marriage that night and would be staying back in the hall. I was writing my article and sipping my tea.
At around 11.45 p.m. I fell asleep. Around 2:00 a.m. there was a power cut and a humming sound woke me up. The room was dark, with only moonlight guiding me to an extent. I hear a male voice, roughly around 70 years old, mourning and singing in a melancholic sound. The window was open.
I went near the window to check the source of sound and saw a shadow of a big stick coming out from a box and some clothes kept above it. From the shadow I could make out that it looked like a man who was seated on his chair. The sound did not stop and I immediately called my mom and narrated the whole story. She helped me calm down. The sound then stopped at around 3.50 a.m. and I heaved a sense of relief.
My parents came back at about 10:00 a.m. and on seeing them I hugged and started crying. My mom and my aunt told me not to see ghost films or read anything related to ghosts. And even though I have no recollection as to why I was so scared I do know that some incidents and experiences are just way beyond our understanding.
