Catch Me If You Can

Steven Spielberg crafts this suspense drama. While the fable of deceit is not new, the knack of weaving together is. While Frank Abagnale Junior, deftly portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio forges cheques and cashes, an equalling ingenious Tom Hanks is on the hunt for him. The cat and mouse chase that ensues shaped the film’s success.

 Black Swan

Darren Aronofsky directs this tale of passion and competition. Mila Kunis with her haughty demeanour scorches the screen. Natalie Portman fights for her space with naivety and endurance. Sequences of Portman’s footwork in the ballet performance and her personification of the Black Swan are sure winners.

Dead Poet’s Society

Peter Weir’s story is this coming-of-age tale that imparts a refined message — Carpe Diem — seize the day. The perils a revolutionary teacher fights against to reform his students form the crux of the plot. The tale is interspersed with subtle humour and intense emotions. Robin Williams better known for the humour extends his dexterity to emotions and sentiments. The outlandish teacher and the equally quirky students refuse to fade over time.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Michael Gondry directs this drama that is true to its title. It is an off-beat tale of romance. Kate Winslet paints a picture of poise and professionalism. Jim Carey lives his character to the fullest. The film houses all possible rudiments to make it one perfect watch.

Samurai

This is one of Balaji Saktivel’s less-acknowledged films. A common man’s fight against atrocities is the main plot. Vikram flexes his muscles and certain sequences are well helmed. Though the plot is clichéd the narrative is refreshing. Some of the melodies of the track by Harris Jayaraj linger on.
