Music season warms up in Madurai

Music lovers in the Temple Town can look forward to a great season of recitals with the Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Samajam conducting programmes this month and in January and February.

And for those, who may have craved to attend the Chennai Margazhi Season, but couldn't make it, there is some good news. There will be an opportunity to experience a taste of the Chennai Music Festival right here in Madurai. T.M.Krishna's vocal concert at the Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai, will be web telecast live on December 27 (Tuesday) for audiences here at Lakshmi Sundaram Hall at 4.30 p.m.

This kind of an arrangement has been made for the first time and true music lovers should keep themselves free on that day and time. T.M.Krishna will be accompanied by Mysore Srikanth on violin, Karaikudi R.Mani on mrudangam and V.Suresh on Ghatam.

The music season will otherwise take off with violin recitals by A.G.A Gnanasundaram and M.Vijayaganesh on Sunday (December 25). The duo will be accompanied by A.G.A.Somasundaram on mrudangam and Ravi Krishnan on ghatam. This performance is scheduled at 6.30 p.m.

A five-day fest of ‘Hari Keertanas' has been billed from December 28 to January 1. The “Varhari Sampradaya Hari Keertan” will feature sessions invoking Sant Shri Gyaneswar maharaj Charitram (Dec.28); Sant Shri Namadev Maharaj Charitram (Dec.29); Sant Shri Jana Bai Charitram (Dec.30); Sant Shri Tukaram Maharaj Charitram (Dec.31 and January 1). The venue is Lakshmi Sundaram Hall at 6.30 p.m. daily.

At the same venue and same time again on January 7 and 8, Geetha Bennett will give a veena recital and Harsha Nagarajan will give a vocal performance respectively. January 11 to 13 is the time for the annual Shri Sathguru Thyagaraja Utsav too besides the ‘Upanyasam' by Sri. U.Ve Taamal Ramakrishnan on January 21 and 22. The February events will take place from 4 to 15.
