When I look at world cuisines there are few which instantly come to my mind. One such cuisine which always attracts me is the French cuisine. I love the way how French people get involved and present their food with pride.
I still remember during my college days when I was studying French language I always used to look forward to the fete de la music and the annual day at the French Cultural Centre where the delicacies were served.
I passed college and stopped going to the events but I still miss the food. A recent invitation though to review Le Bistro du Parc rekindled all the memories as its one of the best places of the city which is offering authentic French delicacies. It is a nice little bistro with a cosy terrace located at Moolchand market with lots of greenery around. The best part is it is owned by a French lady and the food is cooked by a French chef.
The menu is kept simple with six entrées and seven pre-plated main course dishes. I ordered all six to start with and the manager was shocked. Doubting my ability to eat it all he asked me to reconfirm. I reaffirmed by stating all six.
The first to arrive was a green pea soup with aubergine caviar and gouda biscuit. Beautiful presentation where the chef poured the hot soup over the cheese biscuit and it just melted. The flavour was wonderful and the creamy texture with robustness of gouda made the soup taste yummy. It was followed by Indian salmon carpaccio and I must confess it was just amazing. It made my day.
Even the pan fried calamari was worth every bite and the carrot sponge with vegetable maki was an artistic masterpiece and a complete visual delight. I looked at it for a minute, paused and then tasted it.
Now it was time to order the main course and I told the manager that I would have at least three this time. Steamed black pomfret in mustard greens was a master preparation. All juices intact within the wrap giving the fish a subtle taste. Even my friend who does not eat fish finished his portion in no time.
After the fish it was time to taste some red meat, a tenderloin steak beetroot medley and sweet potato cigar. It was the only below average dish served during the session. I had a bite and left the chewy steak.
A bite of Valrhona chocolate rocher was sinful and had a great after taste.
