After every season of Big Boss we have a celebrity couple. Most part ways after a few months but with Karishma Tanna and Upen Patel it is different. They are not only holding on but have participated in yet another reality show Nach Baliye , where they have reached the semi-final stage.
A top model, Upen’s journey as an actor has been bumpy but he begs to differ. “It has been a wonderful journey. I worked for the best of the designers in India. After I became big in modelling, Subhash Ghai launched me in 36 China Town and my last film was Shankar’s Tamil film ‘I ’, was also a huge hit. In between, I got the offer for Big Boss and then Nach Baliye came to us. I never went on with a plan, everything happened gradually and I am learning new things every day.”
As for Karishma, she says there have been no big twists in her journey yet. “There has been no big transformation. I was dancing when I was acting as well. Actors generally dance in performances like in an award function. So, it is not a new thing for me.”
Upen says he never tried dancing but after participating in the show he got to learn Latin, Salsa, Tango and robotic dance. “We work very hard every week to deliver a good performance. And I am getting drawn towards dancing.”
For Karishma dance is a natural corollary to acting. “So it was never a problem to participate in a dance show. But every time you are doing a show you learn a lot. I like Bollywood form of dancing very much and I am most comfortable doing that but during the show you have to prove that you are versatile.”
Talking about their love story, which many felt is concocted for the audience and the media, Upen says, “I don’t remember the exact moment, but I can definitely tell you as I got to know her more and more, I started liking her. I don’t know how and when it happened, but it happened, and I am sure about it.”
Karishma chips in with her side of the story. “The day he was leaving the Big Boss house, I was feeling bad about his exit and the way he was holding my hand, that very moment, I got the feeling like there is something between us. And I can say that was the moment when cupid struck me.”
Both look immensely fit on stage. Karishma gives the credit to dance while Upen gives it to Karishma. “I have to lift Karishma so many times during dance moves that it in itself becomes an exercise! Apart from that I do weight training, cardio and a little boxing. I take a tight diet schedule consisting of low carbohydrates, high protein. It actually depends on what type physique I am getting into. I had to lose around 12 kg weight for I , so I did my workout according to the need.”
