Telugu movie Current Theega starring Manoj is director Nageswara Reddy's second film in a row with the Manchu brothers; earlier he had worked for Dhenikaina Ready with Vishnu.

So does the title Current Theega refer to Sunny Leone who is making her debut in Telugu films? The producer had apparently spent a staggering Rs. 75 lakh for her guest appearance. Earlier star heroines had refused to do the role; so when Manoj suggested Sunny Leone; everyone was happy. She has done Jism 2 . “She is doing a guest role, that of a teacher. It is small but very vital to the story. We could have chosen someone else for that role, but none would have remembered it. She brings stardom and importance to the role. Not only did she make an attempt to learn and speak Telugu despite a heavy accent, she was absolutely professional and would come to the sets on dot.

Every penny spent on her was worth it. Because of her, in the film, Manoj realises searching for love is a futile exercise especially when it is right in front of us,” says the director.

The director finally reveals that the title ‘Current Theega’ is for Manoj as he is full of energy. The movie is a remake of a Tamil film Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam but a lot of stuff has been added to give it a new look. He elaborates, “It is a village story, and it begins with Jagapati Babu challenging that he will chop his ears ( Chevi Kosukunta is an oothapadam ) if the hero succeeds in making his daughter fall in love with him. How the hero surmounts the problem is the climax. My films generally have a message that is passed on in a subtle fashion and in an entertaining way.”

Nageswara Reddy loves having a huge cast in his movies; his hero always has a huge group of friends, his films generally feature a wedding hall filled with guests and lot of revelry . Any scene he thinks of and writes is replete with satire, to break monotony.

The director’s forte is comedy. Current Theega he stresses will be his career best film. Though there is no separate comedian, a comedy track has been weaved into the story. There is an however ensemble cast of comedians who, he promises, will bring the house down.

The technicians are like family to him and he involves them completely in the script and extracts the best of output from them. “I inject the story into them,” he states with a straight face. The climax at a railway station is the highlight, he claims. A part of the film has been shot in Tirupati. The director had toured Visakhapatnam with Manoj to ensure the situation is favourable for its release on October 31. Nageswara Reddy's next film will be produced by Bhogavalli Prasad and Bandla Ganesh.
