Dance, music, fashion, cocktails … that's what the launch party of the MetroPlus Lifestyle Show was all about. In its seventh year now, the show promises to be bigger and better. That it is well-received was evident from the crowd present at the Sheraton Park Hotel and Towers, which was the hospitality partner for the evening.

The guests trickled in attired in their trendy best to be part of the celebration. Thumping music, bright lights, good food and a well-stocked bar… all these and more kept them going. While the men looked dapper in casuals and formals, the ladies wore lovely saris, skirts and short dresses. The proceedings started with a traditional touch, as models showcased a bridal collection by Shreenivas Silks and Sarees. Purple, green, gold and red gave way to magenta, copper and blue. The next round showcased party saris. These were essentially ethnic with a modern twist, much like the city itself which continues to remain traditional, despite its growing cosmopolitan population.

After the ever popular Indian attire, it was time to witness some elegant, flowing gowns by Chennai's young designer Nazia Syed. Coupled with chic 22 carat gold jewellery and diamonds by GRT, this round thrilled the ladies. The men too were fascinated, but by the Samsung products on display, the centre of attraction being a 55-inch Samsung 3D LED TV. With gadgets steadily making style statements, what better way to showcase them than in a fashion show? Models dressed in black with vivid butterflies clipped onto their outfits displayed sleek cameras, cheery mobiles, bright laptops and camcorders — the real showstoppers.

Apart from the glam and glitz, aren't parties fun when they allow you to win goodies? Paloma, emcee for the evening, quizzed the audience about Samsung products and the lucky ones got to win DVD players from Samsung, sponsor of the Lifestyle Show for the sixth consecutive year.

As the night progressed, the excitement grew. Things got hotter as fire jugglers enthralled one and all with their daredevilry. That's not all. People were treated to a high voltage performance as international dancers — Zarina, Victoria and Katrina — shimmied to various desi and videshi tracks. First, a bit of Bollywood twist, and then a flood of cheerful colours engulfed the stage as they performed cancan, followed by hip hop and ribbon dance. The extravagant finale saw the dancers do the samba, sporting elaborate head gear and wings with blue feathers. Long after the performances ended, the revellers let their hair down and swayed to the rhythm of the vibrant night. But this is just the beginning, a prelude to the MetroPlus Lifestyle Show, one of South India's largest consumer fairs.

The shopping extravaganza will be on at Chennai Trade Centre from June 3 to 7. The co-sponsors are Toshiba, Canon, Shreenivas Silks and Sarees, Sun Direct DTH, Tata Motors, SME-Thailand Pavilion Packaging Products, Propshell Business Solutions. I Ads & Events, a subsidiary of Icare Communication, Bangalore is the Event Partner.
