Fitness not thinness: Sonali's mantra.
PTI Fitness not thinness: Sonali's mantra.

For Sonali Bendre eating healthy comes before everything else

Actor Sonali Bendre, mother of a seven-year-old, quite visible on small screen of late, personifies elegance and daintiness. She looks ravishing as ever at the age of 38 and manages a toned and fit body.

Asked about her current fitness schedule, she revealed, “I need to get into a regime. I have been working continuously for the past two months and haven’t found time for the gym.” She expatiates, “Travelling makes my work more stressful and tiring and leaves me with little spirit for exercise”. She admits being lucky as just two or three times of working out in a week keeps her healthy and in shape.

Her maxim of achieving excellent fettle is a healthy diet. She feels blessed to be a naturally healthy eater and swears by fruits, salads and khichdi. She doesn’t obligate herself to follow a very strict diet but comments that she is “more careful than ever about her eating habits”. As she remarks about how she also wants her son to eat healthy, she recognizes that children at a young age have a habit of eating comfort food. To safeguard him from consuming an unhealthy diet all his life, she ensures wholesome nourishment in his young age.

At a time when “size zero” is a neologism, she questions the idea of trying to achieve a lean figure. She instead advocates striving to be healthy in one’s own body type. She notices a difference in herself as she hopes to move towards fitness rather than thinness. According to her, a woman should take her own time to lose weight after child birth, just as she did. So her advice to the mothers is to let it be a natural process. She also says “One should feel good about herself and that should be enough”.

Recognizing skincare as an integral part of one’s wellness, she discerns skin as the cloth one wears all the time. She firmly believes that wellness of one’s body is reflected by the skin.

Conclusively, Sonali acknowledges that food today is not as well enriched with nutrients as it was in times of more environmentally preserved lifestyles, so it has become more important to pay heed to eating habits.
