As the cash registers are set ringing by veteran director Shankar’s ambitious new film I , with its front man Vikram’s performance receiving near universal acclaim, it is the movie’s female lead Amy Jackson, a model-turned-actor from the United Kingdom, who has aroused curiosity and awe among film buffs.

“I am very, very happy. Two and a half years in the making and finally it has released. It’s a great response from the audience and I am really happy that all the work has paid off,” she beams.

In preparation for her character, the actor admits that her passion for a particular kind of sports was of great use helping her stay in shape and maintain an admirable figure.

“I am pretty healthy anyway. I’m very sporty so it has always come naturally to me. I really believe in juices. I try and have at least three juices a day with vegetables like carrot or beetroot. I also swear by yoga and sports. I enjoy my horse riding and athletics.”

It is hard to believe that she takes out time for sports but the passion seems hereditary. “My mum is a horse riding instructor. Especially when I am at home, we’ve got horses so whenever I am there I am always riding,” she says. Amy maintains that the mantra to remain fit is to observe moderation in one’s regular diet and believe that the occasional indulgence and not depriving oneself of things is necessary to stay healthy.

It is not rigorous gym ethics but constant physical exercise that keeps one fit.

“Working out doesn’t mean putting two hours in the gym. I suppose rather than taking the elevator, taking the stairs and generally being active always helps.”

The actor is busy these days as she gears up for other roles on the silver screen.

“I am doing Dhanush’s next movie and also Uday’s upcoming movie. I’ve got scripts in Hindi and Telugu also. I would definitely like to explore new industries.”

Amy believes that despite the cultural and linguistic barriers, cinema has no language. It enables her to enjoy working in the Indian industry and presently, bask in the glory of being one of the few actresses to have worked with the likes of legends like Shankar, A. R. Rahman, P.C. Sreeram and Vikram.

“It is an actress’' dream combination,” she remarks.
