It’s time to pack away those shrugs and jackets and bring out the shorts and tank tops, the rains notwithstanding. The focus this fashion season is on fuss-free clothing, while staying stylish. So put away those synthetic fabrics and silk mixes for cottons, mulmuls, malkhas and khadis. They work equally well with kurtas, loose pants and fitted tops. The fashion brigade is gunning for loose comfortable pieces of clothing to pull off an effortlessly stylish look while staying comfortable this season.

“The focus is definitely on natural organic fabrics that are breathable but still make for good silhouettes. The emphasis is on easy-going clothes while keeping accessories to a minimum. So opt for a free flowing trapeze (wide hem lines) dress for a casual day out. Since denims might be uncomfortable during the heat, one could opt for loose pants or palazzos that are still in. They could either be ankle length or just above the ankle and can be teamed with kurtas in light fabrics or well fitted tops,” says designer Vyshnavi Reddy.

“Crop tops also continue to rule the roost this season and can be teamed with box pleated or umbrella cut skirts. At the same time maxi dresses have made a comeback in a big way and given that they flatter all kinds of body types they are sure winners this season. Florals and summery colours like indigos, blues, yellows and violets are in too,” says designer Ishita Singh.

According to fashion and lifestyle blogger Pallavi Ruhail, “Sundresses are also a great option for a casual brunch when paired with wedges. Spring summer 2015 is also about a lot of Bohemian prints like in the 70s, while white on white is a huge trend this season. If denims are your choice of clothing then opt for patchwork denims for a trendier look.”

Androgynous silhouettes are also huge winners this season. Since they work well with the Indian body type it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to team them with fitted pants for a casual day out. With the focus on minimalistic fashion, it might be a good idea to tone down the accessories. “Some nice earrings are more than adequate to complete your look. Neck pieces might be quite uncomfortable when temperatures soar; especially the ones made with metal. If a neckpiece is a must then try and opt for those fashioned out of cloth. They add a splash of colour and are easy on the skin. For an evening out opt for some comfortable dhoti pants and team it with some smart heels and a fitted top,” suggests Vyshnavi.

“Florals and bright colours are also a good idea this season. However, do try and keep make-up to a minimum; the nude look or the sun-kissed look is really in. Also poker straight hair is out, so try and opt for a more natural look,” says Pallavi, adding that if layering is your style then capes aren’t such a bad idea. “They’re quite a rage this season and go quite well with tank tops and shorts.”
