With the big fat Indian wedding increasingly becoming a norm, DLF Emporio mall launched Treasury of Trousseau three years ago.

The idea was to assist prospective brides and grooms to choose appropriately and sensibly for their dream wedding. The third edition, a five-day-long event that began this Wednesday, is an opportunity for those who have money to splurge on this once-in-a-lifetime occasion to buy garments designed by the likes of Rohit Bal, Suneet Varma and Rina Dhaka. Not only that, they would be getting exclusive personal consultation from them.

According to Dinaz Madhukar, of DLF Emporio, the event has an eclectic mix of experience and talent. “In the first edition, we had roped in stylists, photographers and churiwalas. But this time round we are focusing on expert couturiers, known for their craft, silhouette and fashion sensibilities.”

The organisers have also realised that three-day event neither serves the purpose of those investing their hard earned savings on expensive bridal trousseau nor the designers. “We have increased the duration to fulfil the expectations of everyone. Space utilisation is another area we have worked upon. A stylist would walk around with customers and show them what all they need. We have roped in Aki Narula because he is popular in Bollywood but we are not hiring the services of an actor as it would digress from the main focus .”

This year, the star attraction will undoubtedly be Rohit Bal known for his Midas touch. Interestingly, the event has been conceptualised in a way that only genuine buyers come forward and those who attend these events to video record designers or actors on their mobiles are left out. Agreeing with this analysis, Rohit says, “Since this is a platform for prospective brides and grooms, we are aiming for the right set of audience who are seeking styling solutions. .” .”

Being one of the first designers at the mall , Suneet Varma has a good understanding of the expectations of clients. “My new line not only includes bridal wear but also a large variety of simple and easier silhouettes that can be dressed up and be a part of the trousseau. For a bride the wedding day is the most important day. They are under a spotlight and therefore want to look the best and feel fantastic. As a couturier it is also very important to design clothes that fit well, to enhance their best physical attributes adding to their charm.

It is important to make sure that the brides are extremely comfortable and also guide them on any inspiration or suggestion they may have of their own.”

Varma says his design sensibilities are driven by the theme of the collection of a season. “This couture show is inspired by Shekhavati (painted havelis) and therefore we have a lot of ethnic Indian wear in the store.”
