For most women these days having a nice pair of shoes is the next important thing after an outfit. So they fuss over it no end — matching shoes with each dress, looking for different shoes for different occasions — and go all out to own a striking pair. The market can only cash in on this shoe fetish which it does in an extravagant fashion.
Like every season brings with it new styles, shapes and trends, this summer too is ruled by new designs and colours. It’s more bling. More glitter and more colours for girls, this time. Shoes that match the attire in a quirky sort of way bring up the highlights of the season.
Now, instead of investing a major part of their earnings or savings on just one or two pair of shoes, girls would rather own a dozen of inexpensive ones.
“There is demand for floaters and light slippers these days. Colours sought after are usually purple, green, pink, etc, which cost between Rs.125 and 925,” says Jolly Juneja, Manager of Beauty Footwear at Connaught Place in the Capital.
Mahinder Sachdeva, Manager at Harley Footwear in Janpath, agrees with Jolly and says bright colourful footwear like shocking pink, aqua blue, is indeed the toast of the season.
“Flats are in trend this season. Flip-flops are the most favoured by the girls. Fancy flip-flops with bead and crystal work are much in demand. We offer a range from Rs. 200 to 1000.”
Model Nikita Yadav is also enchanted by the colourful footwear flooding the market. She says, “Flip-flops are in these days. They are nice and casual and you can carry them with both, the casuals as well as the formals. Bright colours like pink, red, and blue are more appealing these days.”
Though flip-flops are selling very well, sandals, gladiators, wedges, ballerinas are also not too far behind. The delicate looking ballerinas with bows and flowers on it are also quite sought after.
Owner of Ram footwear in Lajpat Nagar tells us, “If fading away of the colour is a worry, it’s colourfast so the colour of the leather will not fade. We have a collection ranging from Rs.350 to 450.”
Alka Mehra, a fashion designer from the city, says, “I myself would go for either all plain white or just very colourful. Casuals have to be not entirely flat, but flat which comes with inner padding. For the evening very little shining crystals would do the work, but it has to be stilettos”.
