While Mandira Bedi still continues to anchor several shows and revel in the success of her recently concluded first season of 24 , she also has her hands full with her newly launched label. Her line of saris that she launched late last year have already become a rage thanks to their easy wearability and affordable pricing. Despite the success, Mandira wants to take it slow.
“I’ve already got one store in Mumbai, retailing through multi-designer stores and online apart from showcasing at exhibitions. The response has been great, but I don’t have any expansion plans. I want to take things slow, understand the business, establish myself and then think of expanding,” says the actor-turned-designer who was in the city to showcase at Araaish.
Her saris that use a mix of fabrics and cut down on too much bling have found takers across age groups. “While I’m not yet designing anarkalis and lehengas, I’m not one to say never. For now however, I’m happy designing saris. Ever since I wore them on my cricket shows, I’ve developed a good understanding of the drapes and what works well. Whatever I’ve learnt has been on the job. So let’s see what happens in the future,” she explains.
The actress, who seemed to have shifted focus to anchoring shows after Shanti until 24 happened, says that it was a conscious break. “Nothing inspired me really. I was not too keen on the kind of serials being made and ever since I began anchoring shows I was being offered roles of an anchor in films as well. I’d decided that I would act in a serial if it was all about me. But when 24 came my way, I grabbed it with both hands. It is such a well-made show and I loved the American version of it,” she says.
Mandira, who will also be seen in Atul Agnihotri’s Oh Teri and season 2 of 24 , currently has her hands full. “I’m juggling my shows and design work along with looking after my two-and-a-half year old son and it is just crazy. I’m completely busy, but I love every bit of it,” she says. Mandira and her husband are also in the process of adopting a girl child. “My husband and I had decided even before we got married that we would have one child and adopt a girl child. Now that my son is nearing three we do want to go ahead and adopt one. We’ve put in our papers and the process is on. I think it will be nice for my son to have a sibling,” she smiles.
