Every once in a while all of us have our share of “no clothes to wear” moments. Even if the wardrobe is bulging with clothes that perfect outfit is always elusive.
Masoom Minawalla, a famous fashion blogger and founder of the online store Style Fiestaknows how to pick the perfect clothes for every occasion. She describes her style as ‘individualistic and eclectic’ and something which changes everyday, depending on her mood. Yet, she says, there are some wardrobe staples that help her save her day. Here are three looks that she swears by:
The evening look
“When in doubt, wear black,” says Masoom. Although most of us swear by the little black number, she thinks it is time we give jumpsuits a chance. “It’s always best to realise your strengths and stick to them. I realised a long time ago, that black looks best on me and even if there are times when I’m out to experiment, I ultimately go back to my black outfit.” A simple black jumpsuit, complemented with statement accessories is all it takes to make a lasting impression. “I accessorise my evening look only with gold accents — belt and bold earrings and leave my outfit to do the rest of the talking.” You can jazz up the look further by adding a dazzling clutch and complete with black pumps.
Friday dressing
“When dressing for work, I love blazers, but not when they are black and boring and spell ‘corporate’, instead I choose pretty cropped blazers in colours like turquoise. They add a dash of colour to my ensemble without being too loud for work,” says Masoom. Friday dressing has never been explained better, a dash of colour is just the perfect farewell to a week of hard work and black-grey attires.
The look can be completed by giving the big-black-boring laptop bag a rest and carrying a tote or a structured handbag. “I carry a briefcase-esque bag, which is a perfect way to exude a business vibe and comes in handy when I head out for meetings or appointments.”
Day look
When going on lunches with friends, hopping cafes or mall-trotting, opt for a light and breezy attire with hints of glamour.
Masoom chooses a leather skirt in burgundy and pairs it with an adorable printed sweater or slightly oversized top.
“Leather has been ruling the fashion charts for a while now and there is nothing better than a chic skater skirt when you are planning to have unlimited fun.”
Depending on the weather, you can either pair up the skirt with a cosy sweater or a super-comfy oversized top/T-shirt. “I prefer a subtle hint of colour-blocking in day attires; also one has to do a lot of last-minute running around on days-off, so I would say go for comfortable chunky heels with ankle straps.”
