For all the ladies in their twenty somethings or thirties who want to do some functional Deepavali shopping, the Monsoon 2012 collection by Brass Tacks is up for sale at the Raintree Hotel. The collection largely features a mix of office wear and party wear with shirts, trousers, blousons and dresses in hand-woven or hand-crafted fabrics. The collection is inspired by the idea of a Bohemian woman, fun, strong and free-spirited. The fabrics, as a reflection of the theme, encompass a whole range of bold prints including clamp-dried shibori blocks and ikat motifs. The theme also translates into the confident and free-flowing silhouettes and cuts that define the fabrics. The collection’s colour palette is vivid and varied, including colours like red, indigo, plum, purple, black, green, orange, olive, burgundy, pink and pastel-turquoise.
“I’m passionate about hand crafted textiles and in Brass Tacks, we offer well-cut, well-tailored fabrics made from high quality textiles. Nobody is making fashionable clothes out of handcrafted textiles in India at the moment,” explains Anaka, founder of Brass Tacks, a Chennai-based store. “Top designers make clothes that are too memorable to be worn more than once. I believe that clothes should fit into the lifestyle. How often do people get invited to red carpet events?” Her collection, she says, is ideal for a career-oriented woman in her late twenties or thirties. She also keeps in mind that her clothes fit into an international “context”, which is why one might not really find Indian wear in her collection. “I like taking something traditional and trying to make it look modern,” she adds.
The collection is priced between Rs 1200 and Rs 4000 and will be on display on November 9 and 10 at the Raintree Hotel, 4, Sankey Road, High Grounds, opposite Hotel Windsor Sheraton. For details, call 32723251.
