Rocky S., well-known as the Bollywood favourite, was in town recently to launch his festive collection for Fall 2010 at Aza. The collection showcased rich lehengas, sensuous saris, chic churidar kurtas and sherwanis with very intricate detailing. “My collection this time is not only for the bride, but for her entire family who would like to dress for the occasion.
The wedding season has just begun so, hopefully, my collection will be worn by a lot of new brides,” says the designer. Telling us more about the collection, he says, “The designs are inspired by Rajasthani and Turkish art. I have used a lot of colours in contrast, and the focus is more on the cuts than on embroidery. I have used fabrics like silk, chiffon and georgette, and a little gold embroidery can be found on many pieces.”
Rocky has been in the industry for almost two decades.
On his off-shore ambitions, he says, “I have participated in many fashion weeks this year, including both the Dubai Fashion Fiesta and Dubai Fashion week. But other than that, I have been very busy launching my new store in Mumbai, and Bollywood projects take up time, too.”
What are the Bollywood projects he is working on right now? “I will be styling Katrina Kaif and Tara D'Souza for an upcoming Yash Raj film. There is another film with Bipasha and one with Eesha Deol,” he says.
Stores occupy his energies too. “The Rocky S. Bandra store has just been launched in the end of October. About the Hyderabad store, the interiors are still getting done and we are hoping to launch it by the first week of January.”
He branched out to designing bags, home furnishings and even launched a line of Rocky S. fragrances a few years ago. “I will be re-launching my line of perfumes, but the bags and home furnishings are doing really well.
They are available in about 1,000 stores all over the country and have been very popular.”
His bags especially are garnering a lot of attention. “The designs are all conceptualised, designed and created with an edge of versatility. The target is to make Rocky S bags available to serve a classy range with high fashion and luxury.”
Any plans to open a store in Delhi? “Definitely. We are still at the planning stage right now, though.” So, where are his designs the most popular? “Well, Dubai is one of the upcoming markets, and Mumbai has been steady but Delhi beats every city hands down. People here spend a lot on clothes, they are fashionable and like to keep up with trends every changing season.”
