Top 10 Talkies Short Film Festival 2013
That the short film movement is picking up momentum was proved by the 120-odd entries to the Top 10 Talkies Short Film Festival organised by Top 10 Cinema. Out of this lot, 9 were short-listed and screened for several awards.
Held at the Four Frames Preview Theatre, The Festival had a galaxy of eminent personalities from the film industry as judges: Dhananjayan – UTV, S. R. Prabhu – Studio Green, Laxman - Prince Pictures, Directors Ranjith, Balaji Mohan, Nalan Kumarasamy, Deepan, Magizh Thirumeni, Seenu Ramasamy and Music Director Dharan.
The nine short films screened were (director’s names in parenthesis): Akku (Immannuel Prakash), Feb 4 (S. Raja), Ich (Mahavidhuran), Kesari (M. Shyam Sundar), Kokku (Baval Kumar), Konal Chithiram , an entry from France (Dhayalan), Kurangu (Raana), Mission Thiruvanmiyur (Hari) and Moonram Thamizh (R. Pachamuthu).
Title Winners:
Festival Award Winner - Moonram Thamizh directed by R. Pachamuthu. This film explored the dying art of Therukoothu and how the art binds together a family of several generations.
1st Runner Up - Kurangu directed by Raana. This film explored the aspirations of two young boys and how these continue to grow with them as they age.
2nd Runner Up - Mission Thiruvanmiyur directed by Hari. This film highlighted the plight of the elderly who are distanced from their immediate family when relegated to old age homes.
