Jagriti Theatre will host The Kids Carnival 2013, featuring workshops, performances and other events
Jagriti Theatre has announced its next endeavour: The Kids Carnival, 2013. On May 20, Jagriti will come alive with performances, workshops, music and stalls. Arundhati Raja, artistic director and co-founder of Jagriti says the theatre space will be transformed for the Kid’s Carnival. “We are going to have murals, lots of stalls and of course our fun, yet educational workshops.” The Carnival will run till June 2.
The workshops have been divided into three age groups: eight to 11, 12 to 15 and 16 to 18, and include art, music, story-telling, toy-making, stage combat, stage lighting, magic, clowning, filmmaking, photography and juggling.
The workshops for ages eight to 11 include: Splash of Colour: Fun with Art; Magicians and Kings: Tellings and retellings of Indian folk tales; Playmake: Do-it-yourself toys; Dark Designs: Making, and performing with shadow puppets; Once upon a slime: writing your first story; Sing-a-ling, a music workshop; Word Herds: fun with rhymes and String Things: working with puppets.
The workshops for ages 12 to 15 include: Fight, fight, fight! The basics of stage combat; Up in the air: Learn to juggle with mom and dad; Kapow!: Comic book appreciation; Accio Teacher!: Magic; Beginning, Middle, End: story writing; Take Notes: Music; Dark Designs: Shadow puppetry and Being Charlie Chaplin: Clowning through mime.
The workshops for ages 16 to 18 include: Knowyourcomix: Comic book appreciation; Puncher Shop: Stage combat; Kilowhat?: The basics of stage lighting; Put On Your Face: Mask-making, make up; Louder Than Words: Clowning with mime; Channel Spielberg: Film-making; No Saying Cheese: photography and Paragraph, Plot-A-Graph: writing short stories.
The workshops will be held between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Two well-known plays will also be staged during the Carnival.
On May 24 to 26 Perch from Chennai will perform Jujubee, for children aged three onwards, and on June 1 and 2, Rafiki will present Suniti Namjoshi’s The Fabulous Adventures of Aditi and Friends for children aged five onwards.
