This holiday season, entertainment channel Comedy Central has taken the task of spreading happiness all over with its campaign Spread The Cheer. It has taken the joy of Christmas and laughter to several NGOs, old age homes, hospitals, jails and orphanages with some of its best comedians joining the campaign to perform live in the events. The campaign, this past week, spread smiles among the inmates of Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Comedians like Bharti Singh, Zakir Khan and Amit Tandon put together a joyful afternoon for a congregation of over 1000-strong prisoners.
The event began with welcome gifts exchanged between the comedians and the Jail officials. The artistes were presented with jute bags and paintings made by the inmates.
Zahir Khan was the first to take the stage and set the mood with his light-hearted jokes. Next up was Bharti Singh. The crowd burst into cheers and applauds as the popular stand-up comedian took over. Bharti added a personal touch to her performance by mingling with the prisoners freely, even teasing some of the Jail officials with her funny lines. Stand-up comedian Amit Tandon made the prisoners giggle at his outrageous ideas, from caller tunes people use to marriages.
Red FM was also a part of the event. The channel’s RJ Sachin, popularly known as ‘Bau’, highlighted the fact that happiness could be found in little things.
The event came to an end with a veryemotional dance by a few inmates depicting how they feel and how much they long to meet their loved ones and lead a better life when they are set free.
