The Short+Sweet Theatre festival returns to the city. The third edition, to be held in July, is presented by Prakriti Foundation along with The Blu Lotus Foundation, the Alliance Française, Chennai and the Australian High Commission. Short+Sweet Theatre, the 10-minute theatre, aims to provide a platform for actors, writers and directors to create quality work in professional theatre and a collaborative environment where established practitioners work with and pass on knowledge to emerging talent in theatre.

Scripts in both in English and Tamil are invited for the festival. The last date for sending in the scripts is May 7. Entries can be submitted on www.shortandsweet.org/shortsweet-theatre/chennai. The registration for directors and actors is also open, with the last date for director registration being May 7, and that for actor, June 10.

As a precursor to the festival, two sessions of Crash Test Drama will be showcased on April 14 and May 1 at the British Council Glass Wing. Scripts are invited, and directors and actors requested to register to perform in the Drama sessions. Each play must be 10 minutes or under. The last day of submitting scripts is April 7. The scripts must be mailed to prakritifoundation@gmail.com. For each session, eight to 10 plays will be chosen to be read. Selected directors pick a play and actors based on the play to do ‘moved-readings’ — where actors move around carrying their scripts in hand and use simple props.

Full-day theatre workshops by Vinod Anand too will be held on April 26, 27 and 28 at Spaces, Besant Nagar, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For details, call 98406-66761.
