If you want to be visually stumped by a sheer choice of foods and spices, and snacks, mostly healthy, you must check out Brown Tree. Starting with spices, herbs, seasonings, all the way to ready-to-eat packaged food, the store offers a variety of food products.

You'll find here anything ranging from cappuccino-flavoured soy milk to peach-flavoured aloe vera juice, dried fruits soaked in honey, to Betty Crocker pancake mixes, ganji powders to sugar-free cookies and roasted ragi chiwda.

For those on the move, and looking for some healthful options in food, Brown Tree offers some solace. Like, if you're the kind to munch on pumpkin seeds, goji berry, or sunflower seeds as a mid-day snack at work, or know the health benefits of macadamia, and pecan nuts, you'll get your weekly snack shopping done here.

For those who can't live without their ribbon pakoda or chakli, there's low-oil versions of many such popular fried snacks.

There are also many popular Indian and foreign brands of soups, salad dressing, juice, biscuits, wafers, cookies, breakfast cereal, nachos and chips, ice-cream, noodles, frozen foods like samosas, etc.

Abhinandan B., Director of the Chennai-based Brown Tree says they call themselves a health food store because that is their core strength, but, in addition, they also offer processed foods for those who are on the move and need a whole variety of foods in one place. With over 90 varieties of dry fruits alone, of various grades, origins, and types, the sheer range is their USP, he says. They have their own warehouse where the procured products are cleaned, graded, processed, he adds.

The all-vegetarian store also stocks its own brand of molaga podi, rasam powder, churans, supari, green teas, masala chai, gulkhand-dry fruit combos and more.

Only one shelf in the store is dedicated to organic products — mostly spices, pulses, dals and flours. You also get fresh vegetables (semi-organic) on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There's also one shelf dedicated to sugar-free products.

Brown Tree is at No 19, Sampige Road, 2nd Cross, Malleswaram. Call: 42067091/ 42158394. The store has branches in Church Street, next to K.C. Das (41527235), and in Koramangala 6th Block, 80 Ft Road (40926556 / 41901416).
