I have black hair and want to use a highlight. I read that lemon works but will it turn my hair grey? — Priti
Lemon will not be effective. It does have a mild skin lightening effect, but it is too mild to bleach the hair. For highlighting black hair, a lighter colour such as brown, burgundy or blonde may be used. The hair is first bleached and then coloured because black hair does not catch colour. Bleaching and then colouring mean more damage to the hair. Go to a good hairstylist if you want to have highlights.
My 15-year-old daughter has small black spots on her face. Are these blackheads? If so, what is the remedy? — Laxmi
If they are slightly raised, they may be blackheads. On pressing a blackhead, a white plug with a black tip comes out. However, blackheads should not be pressed with the nails, as it can lead to pimples and acne. Blackheads occur on oily areas of the skin. After washing your face in the morning, wipe the blackhead-prone areas with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Then, make a paste of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) and water. Apply it on the areas with blackheads daily and wash it off after 5 minutes. Use a facial scrub thrice a week. Apply it on the face, rubbing it gently on the skin, using small circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off. Or, mix oatmeal with egg white and apply it on your face twice a week. Wash it off after it dries. This also works like a facial scrub.
Suggest a home remedy to remove upper lip hair? — Uma
Home remedies do not remove facial hair. They help lessen the growth if used regularly over a period of time. Try any of these remedies — Make a thick paste of sugar, lemon juice and water and apply it in the direction of the hair growth. Wash it off after it dries. Apply it once or twice a week. Apply a paste of turmeric powder and milk and rub this on your skin using a circular motion. It is said to discourage facial hair, but your skin may acquire a yellowish tinge.
My elbows are dark and dry. — Lily
Rub lemon halves and rub daily on your elbows. Wash it off and then massage your elbows with sesame seed (til) oil. Apply a cream immediately after your bath, while the skin is still damp. This helps seal in moisture. A cream containing lemon and turmeric may also be used. Make a paste of gram flour (besan), curd, lemon juice and a little turmeric. Apply the paste on your elbows at least three times a week. Wash it off after half an hour.
