I had chicken pox two months ago. But several marks still remain on my body and face.— Anirudh

The marks will fade with time. Try the following remedies. Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda and a little water. Apply the paste only on the marks and wash it off after five minutes. Use a scrub twice a week on your face and body. Rice powder and curd make a good scrub. Apply it and rub gently on the skin with small circular movements, especially on the areas with marks. Wash it off with water. Twice a week, take one teaspoon of multani mitti, two teaspoons of almond meal, one teaspoon each of honey, curd and egg white. Mix it into a paste. Apply it on the face, avoiding the lips and area around the eyes. Wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes. For dry skin, add one teaspoon of pure almond oil. If there is any dryness, take two teaspoons of curd, add a pinch of turmeric, and apply it on the face and wash it off after 15 minutes. This will also help reduce marks.

I am 25 and have wrinkles on my face (crow’s feet). How can I get rid of these without surgery?— Suganya

Crow’s feet develop near the eyes. Daily apply pure almond oil sparingly around the eyes and massage it lightly on the skin, using only the ring finger, for one minute around each eye, including the area with crow’s feet. Massage in one direction only. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wipe it off gently with moist cotton wool. You can also mix cucumber juice and potato juice in equal quantities. Apply it on the area daily for 20 minutes. Wash it off with water. Before going out in the sun, apply a sunscreen lotion sparingly around the eyes. Add a drop of water to it before application, to give a lighter coverage.

There are dry patches on the edge of my feet. I put cream, but it becomes dry and itchy soon.— Papiya

Since there is itching, consult a dermatologist to make sure it is not a skin problem. Massage your skin with til oil before a bath. Use a mild glycerine soap. Immediately after a bath, apply cream while the skin is still damp. This helps seal in moisture. At night, before retiring, soak your feet in hot water for approximately 20 minutes. With the help of a pumice stone or a heel scrubber, rub your heels gently to remove the dead cells. Avoid metal scrubbers. After washing your feet, massage them well with a cream. Apply the cream generously on the affected area. Bandage your feet with a clean cloth. Wear cotton socks and go to sleep. Repeat this every night for a week. A lemon turmeric cream may be applied daily before a bath.
