Tuesday morning was a special day for Suriya fans, who had assembled in hordes outside Sathyam theatre. For, one day before the star’s birthday, the entire Anjaan team had gathered for the songs’ and trailer screening session.

The film, which marks the combination of Lingusamy and Suriya for the first time, has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. As with the director’s previous films, the songs hold prime importance in the script.

“The minute the hero’s introductory ‘Bang Bang Bang’ number was locked, we were very happy,” said the filmmaker about the song that’s written by Madhan Karky, “It reveals the mood of the protagonist.”

After the screening of the songs, Yuvan Shankar Raja — hero of the event — described the album as a ‘complete album’. “We’ve covered all genres in it,” he said, adding, “for us, composing sessions just happen. We might be talking about something random and suddenly, music happens.”

The highlight of the morning, understandably, was when Suriya came forth to croon a couple of lines from the ‘Ek Do Teen Char’ number, which he has sung in the film. “I’m a complete non-singer…I’ve not even sung in the bathroom,” he revealed.

“We had finished shooting this song that was earlier recorded in Yuvan’s voice. Suddenly, Lingusamy sir asked me if I would like to sing it and I was taken aback. In fact, on the day of the recording, I had a cold but thanks to the team’s encouragement, we recorded it within a matter of two hours,” he said.

So, how much does Yuvan rate Suriya the singer, asked the anchor. “Sometimes, when a singer has a cold, it adds a certain texture to the song. In some cases, it works. In Suriya’s case, it did too.

I had already listened to his voice when he sang for an advertisement recently, and I knew he had it in him. I was quite surprised when he did a good job of the tune.”

Anjaan , which is slated for release on August 15, has Samantha playing the female lead. While Bollywood actors Manoj Bajpai and Vidyut Jamwal have done important roles, actress Chitrangada Singh has performed an item number.
