Nissan is launching an open-top version of the Murano Crossover in a bid to open a new buyer segment with a first model likely to be presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, according to reports.

Nissan meanwhile confirmed that a two-door convertible version would most likely be available on the North American market next year, making it one of the first open-top Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) on the market.

A Murano convertible was recently previewed by US dealers in Las Vegas and apparently met with a mixed response. Images of the Murano convertible reveal a sharply pronounced rear in continuation of a controversial style mixture.

Nissan manager Brian Carolin was quoted by Automotive News as saying that the Murano convertible was not destined for large volume production and there was a “degree of bravery in bringing out a car like that right now.” Nissan recently released on the European market a 190 hp diesel version of the Murano in addition to the 256 hp V6 petrol engine.
