The revamped Regency Restaurant at Abad Plaza boasts an all-encompassing menu

Abad Hotel’s Regency restaurant’s redone, revamped, cheerful and bright interiors in violet and cream welcome us. The buffet spread at the restaurant has always been popular among corporates, shoppers and those looking to eat out. A buffet is easy, it is fast, you can’t go wrong with it and for lunch it is perfect.

The revamped restaurant is spacious unlike in its previous avatar. And there is plenty of natural light which gives it an airy feel.

The multi-cuisine restaurant boasts an impressive menu spanning continents and countries. Dinner is an a la carte affair, complete with the karaoke experience of Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh songs.

The lunch buffet is extensive, complete with a tempting array of desserts. “On any given day there are a couple of dishes which are chefs’ innovations,” says executive chef Jayakumar. The surprises awaiting us on the day were Hawaiian miso dumplings and Turfan beef.

Both of which were different from anything one has eaten before, especially the beef which had the strong flavours of ground green chillies

The highlight of the lunch, however, are the a la carte dishes—the dramatically named Tom Sawyer’s fish, honey chilli prawns and murg malai kebab – which the chef wants to showcase.

Sliced fillet of Mahi fish topped with white sauce on a bed of rice bordered with green, yellow and red bell-peppers, chopped fine and rings of olives is a visual treat, and the complete meal assures Jayakumar, one which is very popular with the kids and tourists from abroad, says the chef. Why Tom Sawyer? “Because of its appeal for children,” he adds. A name like that would, undoubtedly, arouse curiosity.

Continental done, we move to the Chinese part of the menu and in come honey chilli prawns fried crisp with a glistening coating of honey. Spicy in parts, tangy in others...the sweetness of honey misleads the palate as the gingery aftertaste provides that spicy kick.

From the bland, easy on the palate, fish to the fiery-sweet honey chilli prawns, it is a leap across continents in terms of flavours. The creamy murgh malai kebabs are bite-sized chunks of chicken with hints of spices. The kebabs and the prawns make for filling finger foods too.

Squid rings, prawn cocktails, cashew chicken and the super healthy farmhouse broth are just some of the other dishes on the revamped menu which has plenty on offer.
