A Cordon Bleu cook and his business partner, an experienced chef, dish out the real thing for Christmas and the New Year. The long list includes Plum cake and pudding (Half a kg costs Rs 450 and Rs 600, respectively), Dundee cake and Stollen bread with candied orange peel, raisins and marzipan in the centre. There are also Christmas bell cookies with fondant and almond crescent cookies. A box of 10 cookies costs Rs. 150, while the Stollen bread is Rs. 200 per loaf.
V’s also has rasberry and hazelnut delights, apple crumble pies and a range of eggless options. If it is to be a gift of bread, there is rye, multi grain and sour dough bread. Everything is available off the shelf, but if you want them in bulk, V’s requires at least two days’ notice.

Work for the plum cakes here started in November 2012 when Praveena J slow-cooked honey, molasses, jam, ghee and lemon juice, added spices, dry fruits, nuts, cherries and orange peel and a healthy splash of rum. This was left to age for a year before being baked with cointreau, black rum and bitters into aged plum cakes (Rs. 650 a kg, limited stock). The store also stocks rich plum cake (Rs. 300 a kg), spice cookies (Rs. 35), Christmas custard cup cakes (Rs. 65), plum pudding (Rs. 60) and brittle cake pops (Rs. 30).
