Take heart, it's time to shop

Farmer’s markets, curated shows, and food events abound in this city, are extremely well-attended. The 18th edition of By Hand From The Heart promises all three in one place. Apart from the usual maker’s market that they are known for, this time, they also feature six food artisans, farmers and organic food entrepreneurs who will talk about their craft.

Sanjoy Gupta of Estate Craft, Bangalore, will explain how to appreciate the softer side of coffee. The half-hour session will include a tasting and brewing session and lessons on how to differentiate the taste between different types of coffee and coffee from different origins.

Learn about bio-dynamic farming and its implications on tea from Suresh Nanjan of the Coonoor-based Teaneer. Taste different brews of the same tea leaves and see if you’re able to tell the difference.

The fine art of chocolate tasting is best learnt from someone like Nitin Chordia of Chennai’s Cocoatrait, who is India’s first certified chocolate taster. He brings the session he conducted in Amsterdam and the U.K. to the city, where you will also get to taste six types of chocolate.

Rebecca Maria Vaz brings the art of Bhuira jam-making from Himachal Pradesh. The session will include a demonstration of jam made with local banana varieties and a tasting.

“What’s on your plate?” asks Jitendra Prasad of Door 2 Door Organics, at his session, which will involve educating the audience on what goes into the making of regular food and the truth about organic foods.

Sridhar Lakshmanan of Madhumeeta Honey will demonstrate how honey is collected without harming the bio-diversity and the bees and is sold without any processing. Experience raw, monofloral and polyfloral honey and also the unique variety produced by dammer or stingless bees, which are very small and produce very little.

All sessions are free of cost, but require online registration.

The marketplace will feature 45 makers, crafters, design entrepreneurs, farmers, and food artisans from New Delhi, Gaya, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Melkote, Pollachi, Coonoor, Puducherry, Tirunelveli, Dharmapuri, Chennai, Doha, Dubai and New York.

This includes handcrafted natural ice cream from Shmoozie’s, sustainable coconut shell decor from Kavin Gallery, hand-painted, fabric and leather bags from Shop With Tanuja, Sew4Soul and Chiaroscuro respectively, upcycled paper woven products from Aardra, pottery and art from handwork studio, organic leisure and athletic wear from Proyog and silver jewellery from Quirksmith.

Horticulture and gardening supplies will also be available, apart from organic fruits and vegetables, artisanal food and pickles.
