Mira, a restaurant at Hotel Horizon, has been given a face-lift. The place is well-lit and seems rather spacious. The seating arrangement is good; they are not clustered together. A buffet table in the centre of the restaurant is what arrests my attention. The old Mira was an a la carte restaurant.
The buffet is not too wide spread, which is a good thing, as one gets to try most of the dishes on display. Most of the dishes are, however, Indian. The waiter, who hands me the restaurant’s a la carte menu, smiles and says, “That is a good decision, madam!”, when I tell him I will be trying out the buffet.
For soups, there is a choice between sweet corn chicken and sweet corn vegetable soup. Skipping the soups, I head for the salads instead. Unfortunately, other than Honey Drop Salad, which has shreds of crunchy carrots with bits of coconut for added texture, the rest are disappointments.
Helping myself to some fluffy looking butter kulchas and mint parathas, I pile the plate up with egg chilli, beef fry and brinjal masala.
The butter kulcha is soft and the mint paratha has generous helpings of freshly chopped mint leaves in it. The egg chilli, which is hot and sweet, crumb-coated sliced eggs, is a must try.
Make sure you have a glass of water nearby when having the beef fry. Succulent pieces of well marinated beef cooked to perfection, it is rather spicy.
The brinjal masala is my favourite. Although spicy, there is a faint hint of sweetness to it.
Although there are other dishes like noodles, meen peera, paneer masala, dal and fish curry on the buffet menu, I am quite content with those on my plate.
My waiter strongly recommends semiya payasam as dessert. Although a tad too sweet, the strong flavour of cardamom in it, makes it flavourful. I also help myself to some fruit salad. Rasagulla and pineapple soufflé are the other dessert items in the buffet spread.
The restaurant offers buffet lunches and dinners daily. While the lunch is priced at Rs. 350 plus taxes, dinner is priced at Rs. 400 plus taxes.
