New addition to the happening GK II M Block Market is the cool and calm Aquarium Lounge. Yes, a lounge set up, beautifully done in white with several water bodies. Sea shell imprints on the walls lend a touch of aesthetics to the venue.
Into its first month only, still it is hard to find a place to settle in. All thanks to the concept of having ladies night during an off day of the week. Menu offers mainly finger foods from six countries and a list of main course dishes from across the world with each of its pages dedicated to American, Mexican, Thai, Italian, Lebanese and Indian delicacies. I find the menu a bit confusing as it’s without the divisions of the courses. Some sections miss the soups while some don’t have any desserts listed.
Laksa seems to be the best option to start with and it is made reasonably well. The quality of prawns used is not good but the texture and flavours of the soup remains intact. And som tam salad lacks the freshness and even that typical Thai flavour. Gai yang, a chicken skewer is tasty and full on succulence. Maryland fried strips which were basically crumb fried chicken strips with BBQ sauce are delicious too. Strips are juicy and tender unlike many places where the use of chicken breast makes them dry. Crispy potato skin stuffed with cheese was damn crispy. Mexican import quesadillas is stuffed with flavourful grilled veggies and cottage cheese but the tortilla could have been better. Fried calamari has a nice crisp and fluffy crust and tastes good with the mayo based dip.
Lamb kibbeh, the Lebanese delicacy, is crisp fried but very dry. Even the doner which is supposed to be of the seekh is made out of shredded roasted chicken and stuffed in a grilled pita. It looks tempting but the pita is soggy. The chef will have to learn the nuances of making a pita very soon. After sampling the world cuisines, for the main course it makes perfect sense to go for something Indian. Makhni murgh is quite decent and helps to move to my last course of desserts. Baklava and fried ice cream as the options available are worth a try.
