SummerHouse Café at Hauz Khas Market

Delhi’s weather operates in extremes but just as it is entering a new season especially winters, there is a period which is absolutely pleasant. It’s not chilly but there is a slight nip in the air which is a perfect time to have your meal outdoors. I also opted for a terrace seating during my recent review session at SummerHouse Café at Hauz Khas Market. Good location and ample parking space unlike other village properties, make it a worthwhile affair. A bit of a shabby stair climb but once youenter the café and it’s all together a different world.

A good 100-plus covers with terrace makes it a perfect place to hangout. Their comedy nights seemed to be popular as there were walk-ins even on a Tuesday night. The menu is a mix of world cuisines made under the supervision of Chef Harman who is known for its association with the best burger outlets of Delhi. The weather encouraged me to start with some piping hot seafood bisque which from the very first sip was disappointing. It hardly had any seafood in it and even lacked in the very basic aroma of seafood. Even the accompanying bread was cut very thick which made the bite a shade uncomfortable. As my non-vegetarian starters arrived it got some unknown guests along. Two cute little cats who just hung around with me!A mezze platter, sizzled red chicken, chicken wings in American hot sauce — all seemed to be pretty average. Only the meatballs shone through. They were juicy and succulent, going well with the sauce. Moving on to the main course, herb crusted sole was bland and quite flat. I was surprised by the quality of food as I have heard lot of positive things about the place. I suppose they are doing well with music and events but seriously needto improve on their food. Keeping in mind that Chef Harman is the man behind, I ended with a tenderloin dynamite burger, a saving grace in the entire meal. I wanted to leave on a sweeter note but the desserts didn’t reach my table even after half an hour of ordering.
