Happy Hakka is here to stay.

I was in Noida to celebrate the New Year with my friends and opted to have some Chinese’ food. Trying Happy Hakka — among the latest entrants in the quick service format — was a wise decision. Located centrally at Jaipuria Plaza market in sector 26, Happy Hakka offers some delicious fare. The menu consists of around 40 dishes, including all the popular ones such as noodles, rice, dim sums, soups and meals in bowls.

I started with a bowl of manchow soup. It was served piping hot and had all the ingredients of a tasty soup. Offering both delivery and takeaway service, the restaurant serves in customised packaging which is microwave friendly and good enough to be treated as a bowl.

Arushi Vaish, one of the owners, took me through the whole concept of coming up with a Chinese QSR and I was impressed by her passion for food. She eased my job by ordering my food covering most of the signature dishes. Peppery chicken wings followed the soup. Pepper corn glaze gave the wings a nice kick.

Honey chilli potato, one of the most famous at roadside vans nowadays, was just amazing. The balance of spice and honey was just perfect. The Crunchy Munchy rolls, though one of the popular dishes, failed to impress me despite their scrumptious name, as the stuffing was a bit too dry. On the other hand the cheese peppers pizza was awesome. The cheese oozing out of the pizza was a visual treat.

The dim sums had nice stuffing, but the batter needs to be a bit moister specially the siu mai one. Kung pao with fried rice was flavourful but I missed cashew nuts in the curry. This one only had peanuts for the crunch. The fried rice had lots of scope for improvement.

The flat noodles with pok choi and cabbage was a light and tasty preparation. Normally people don’t experiment with cabbage and flat noodles but it turned out really well.

Another good option is the meal in a bowl. I tried the Fiery Oyster Chicken. Laid on top of steamed rice, the chicken with red and yellow peppers was delicious. Red meat lovers should opt for shredded lamb or the Super Meat Treat bowl.

From the evening’s experience it seems certain that Happy Hakka is here to stay. And finally, Noida has a good Chinese QSR delivering food at doorstep.

Meal for two: Rs. 500 – 600
