The menu at Masala Klub focuses on traditional Indian food presented in a contemporary way, and the food festival at Taj Club House gives us a taste of this trend.
We’re greeted with a refreshing pineapple panna golgappa . For starters, there’s a scrumptiously spicy prawn served with grilled pineapple, succulent chicken tikka, grilled broccoli marinated in a mustard yoghurt and paneer tikka with jalapenos and olives.
While we’re happy with most of the starters, it’s the Dal Indus that comes with the main course which bowls us over. The dish takes over 48 hours to make: lentils are soaked overnight, and then boiled, slow cooked, tempered and slow cooked again. The result is a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth dal that has us ignoring every other accompaniment (including spit-roasted chicken in gravy and paneer makhni) that comes with the variety of naans served.
The baked anjeer halwa is the highlight of the meal: sweet, rich and delicious. There’s also gulab jamoon cheesecake and a date kulfi, both of which are fulfilling desserts.
The Masala Klub festival is on at Beyond Indus, Taj Club House till June 22, and is open for lunch and dinner.
