Haven’t been to Santorini? Here’s your chance. This Santorini (almost) is on Road no 45 in Jubilee Hills and offers a heavenly meal (at any time of the day and any sized bite). And if one gets hooked on to the desserts “My waist is expanding but the craving for the chocolate fondant is getting insatiable,” is what Shaaz Mehmooz, one of the owners says.
One thing is for sure, once you begin climbing the steps to the two week-old Olive Bistro, it gives you a feeling of having stepped into Greece. (For reference, think of the scenery and places as shown in the Pierce Brosnon and Meryl Streep starrer Mama Mia. )
To reach this eatery the easiest route is the first left after HDFC bank on Road no 45. in Jubilee Hills. Olive is situated on the Durgam Cheruvu lake, bang opposite Inorbit Mall.
To begin with potato lovers can gorge on those wedges either with a kiwi apple delight or the virgin colada. Or get on with the mood of dining with an ‘Italian Job.’ One will need to make several trips to try every dish at Olive’s menu which is chef Mayank’s speciality. If you are hungry, the plating and the presentation will further improve your appetite.
The salads are definitely a must-try and one cannot believe what wonders beetroot can do to your palate. You might also end up looking like a ‘greedy-bugger’ because the roving eye will just not stay put on your table and order. While you are enjoying your spiked green harissa marinated prawn skewer, the smoked chilli and burnt garlic marinated Indian Basa skewer with your Italian Job, you will be also be drooling at the chermoula spice marinated chicken skewer or honey mustard bratwurst or glazed pork ribs cracking being served on the other tables.
Depending on what your appetite is upto one can ask for pasta or a pizza. Caution: Pizza might let you down with excess veggie topping which makes the pizza slices soggy and difficult to lift. So move on and head for food that calls for the knife and fork. Pan Seared Cottage cheese and parmesan steak served with slow cooked caponata , finished with basil oil and a crisp pistachio tuille or slow cooked plum tomato and mascarpone Risotto with Grilled vegetables and basil (chicken can be added to it with an extra cost). The Chef however, recommends Pan seared saltwater Catfish served with sautéed greens, potato puree and matured mustard dill glaze or fennel chilli flavored Indian basa.
These two definitely are heart warmers. If planning to go for chicken then try the flash baked thyme rubbed stuffed chicken. There are some hot and sweet meaty options in pork and beef as well.
And finally end with a sweet note. Eat guilt-free and order for a hot chocolate fondant served with a mild citrus crème, a signature dessert served with a citrus white chocolate sauce. Another yummy option is the vanilla panacotta served with a pink peppercorn and orange sauce. With each mouthful you will be on top of the city, literally.
