The flashy bunnies running from ceiling to the side walls lend a unique ambience to Speedy Chow’s new Thai and Chinese food outlet at Malviya Nagar, making a change from the clichéd ‘Oriental’ decor. The graphic bunnies wearing glasses, holding chopsticks indicate the energy and vibrancy prevailing here. It is a relatively affordable destination for people who may be less travelled but adventurous with their palate. As the name suggests it offers quick delivery and take away. Each time the order is made the wok is tossed and fresh sauces added, say the outlet’s promoters.
Janti Dugal, Food Director, explains, “We do not use preservatives. All our sauces are made in the base kitchen. We do not load our food with salt and MSG (monosodium glutamate) at all. We are health and hygiene conscious. The freezer temperatures are maintained so that we may offer quality food.”
The compact menu ranging from Rs.300 to 400 offers momos, noodles, soup and dimsums. The delivery comes in sealed packages that do not let the contents spill.
Authentic flavours and fresh vegetables dominate the taste that balances the prerequisites of Thai food. The menu does not include fried items as they tend to get soggy gradually. The signature dish is ‘Chowman’s Khowsuey’ served in three varieties — vegetarian, chicken and shrimp.
Rahul Khanna, the restaurant’s founder, is positive about the idea of becoming a pan-India brand and says, “Speedy Chow can replicate a neighbourhood Chinese or Thai budget restaurant while offering a well packaged hygienic framework. If you order noodles on the phone, the chef will make it the moment you call us. It is not like we make one big bowl in the morning. Neither do we put too much starch and cornflower. Malviya Nagar provides us a huge market for dining and home delivery format. Our long term goal is to build a nationalised chain targeting the youth, corporates and families.”
