In the bustling UB city complex, when you enter Rasovara restaurant, you are made to feel like royalty returning home for a meal. One of the staffers applies tilak on your forehead and you are ushered to your seat. The meal starts with a portion of the most famous Guajarati delicacy, a soft and fluffy delicious dhokla served with pudina chutney. It is followed by small portions of a bread roll, corn pattice, hara bhara kababs and palak muthiya, served with kadi and a range of assorted sauces. We also sample the superb pani puri shot and a maharaja mango lassi shot, which serve as instant coolers on a warm day. We enjoyed the palak and kadi combination.
The main course starts with a portion of cold spiced buttermilk. The highlight of the meal was what came next, the scrumptious dal bhatti churma served with oodles of ghee. It provides a host of flavours, the slight sourness of the dal and the sweetness of the churma complement each other. The churma is followed up with portions of Indian breads including miniature jowar rotis and phulkas, served with liberal doses of ghee. A host of delicacies from the west of the country, including the sweet gujarati dal, that reminds one of a light payasam, the spicy gatte ki subzi and the ever present paneer and kadi sabzis as well. We also sampled miniature pooris with served with a tangy potato curry.
If rice is what you crave for, you can sample the superb matka pulav served in a small clay urn and tastes delightful. The curd rice and khichdi options are also quite good.
We finish the meal with portions of the chocolate samosa, a gulab jamoon and an apple jalebi that provided a great end to a really good meal.
