When you can get your pizzas, Chinese food and even biryani home-delivered, why not your bread as well? Cheezy Treet is the latest bakery to offer a variety of breads made with quality ingredients and at a moderate price.

Heading the baking operations is S. Thirukumaran, who has worked in Oman as part of the Lulu Hypermarket chain for over 12 years. “From one bakery, we grew to over 100 outlets. With that kind of experience under my belt, I wanted to start my own outfit and provide quality breads here in Chennai,” says the chef, whose family has been associated with baking for three generations now.

With partners Ebenezer Raju, Babu, Gunaseelan, Robert and his (Thirukumaran) brother M.S. Vadivel, he launched Cheezy Treet four months ago. Apart from bread, they offer whole wheat and oatmeal varieties. Thirukumaran explains that they use only the best ingredients: “I don’t like comparing our products to what others offer, but I just want to give my customers bread that is healthy and good for them.”

“It’s a bit difficult to operate from this place, but since it’s a residential area, it’s closer to customers. The response has been great as people are more aware of the different kinds of breads. By offering tasting samples, we are familiarising them to the taste of unfamiliar breads like ciabatta as well,” says Thirukumaran. Also on the menu are croissants, rolls, pastries, cookies, pies and tarts. Currently, they deliver anywhere in Chennai.

Cheezy Treet is at Old no 168, New no 168/1, Poonamallee High Road, Kilpauk. Details: 28361836
