They tell us you can’t eat your cake and have it too, but temptation makes sure we eat ours and return to the bakery to have one more…and more.

So when Bagels & Brownies, an upmarket name in baked goods and confections, launched a new menu, I had to try it out. Apart from serving fresh cakes and bagels at its outlets in Malviya Nagar and Pamposh Enclave, Bagels & Brownies also provides a 24x7 delivery service.

I visited the GK-I outfit and tasted some of the delicacies. Outlet in-charge Jitin Bhardwaj took me through the new menu. Before tasting, I sat on the only chair available. It’s a very small outlet and works mostly as a takeaway, but it would be nice to have a table or two so people can bring their kids along and enjoy a slice of cake.

First I went for the Bagels Sandwich which was terribly spicy. It has stuffed shredded chicken dipped in peri peri sauce. I liked the flavours but it was a bit too greasy. The first bit was a tad disappointing. The outer portion of the bagel was hot but inside the chicken was cold — since everything at the outlet comes from the base kitchen and is served after being heated in a microwave. Reheating is always a tricky business. Sometimes you burn your lips, and the other problem is, the sandwich always turns soggy.

Nevertheless B&B scores on its exotic cakes and brownies. The chocolate brownie bomb is certainly one to die for: Three layers of chocolaty delight — pure dark chocolate outside, brownie in the middle and molten chocolate right inside. Even the tarts are good. Out of the various breads I loved the Olive and Jalapeno. But it is the cakes in which they specialise. Be it photo cakes, eggless or designer, B&B does it all in style. Do try their Chocolate Truffle or a sinful brownie.

Standard cakes are priced at Rs.649 per kg. For delivery call 011 49332222.
