The unheard appeals of a little boy selling tricolour flags and umbrellas might trigger in you the question — what exactly is patriotism?
Patriotism, for this little boy, who is seen pleading with customers, is a chance to earn extra money. For political leaders, it’s just another day to be in the limelight, wearing the politician’s garb and delivering hypocritical speeches. For school children, it’s a day of celebration with programmes and sweet distribution. On this day, every street corner will have the tricolour hoisted. But why restrict patriotism to Independence Day and Republic Day? Shouldn’t it be a way of living, a part of our culture?
