Last year, during my Christmas holidays, I had gone to Northeast India with my family. My parents had told me many interesting things about the seven States in the Northeast and that they are called Seven Sisters.
Our first stop was at Guwahati, Assam. We drove past the Brahmaputra on our way to the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary to see rhinos. Among the main rivers in India, it is the only river with a ‘boy’ name, while the others have ‘girl’ names! We also visited the famous Kamakhya Temple and we saw the brutal sacrifices of goats and pigeons.
Our next stop was at Shillong, Meghalaya, on Christmas Eve. It was really cold there. I had no idea that it could get so chilly in these regions. My parents had to force me and my brother to go out and explore the city in that weather. Covered from head to toe, we went to many beautiful places in and around the city.
On Christmas evening, the city was lit up and crowded with people having a great time. Then we went to Aizawl, Mizoram and the Christmas spirit was everywhere. For the first time I saw a city built on hill slopes; every road and alley is a steep slope. I had a great time and lots of fun. I also learned a lot about my country.
